The Art of the Start: Building Momentum from the Ground Up

 What excites me is getting that spark of clarity that leads to pursuing a project, where everything starts to happen, and we’re turning potential into real-world momentum. 

Every successful company begins with someone asking, "Can this be something?"

That’s what I try to spend my time doing. I look for opportunities in places that I feel are overlooked by others in our industry, whether it’s because they’re too complex, too risky, or, in most cases, because it seems too early to be realistic. But to me, that’s where the edge is, in places with potential that I love to find ways to unlock.

When I go in on a project, I’m all in - we’re consolidating the right land position, assembling the right team, and turning data into a clear exploration thesis. The goal is to develop and unleash all the potential that I saw in that initial spark. It’s to create a company that everyone wants to be a part of. 

The Promise of Cochise County, Arizona

That’s what I saw in Cochise County, Arizona. A region with a deep mining history, a permitting process that works, clear regulations, and enough room to think big. When I began assembling the projects that would become the backbone of Intrepid Metals, headquartered here in Vancouver, I was looking for a place where we could move fast, build smart, and lay the groundwork for something valuable. We’ve been able to do that with Corral Copper, Tombstone, and Mesa Well. 

I specialize in setting the table, building a strong foundation that gives the eventual operator an easily scalable company. When I bring on partners, as we’ve just done with Teck Resources Limited’s 9.9% investment in Corral Copper, I want to be satisfied that I’ve played my role to the fullest and move on to apply all the new wisdom I’ve just earned to setting the table somewhere new.  

The Reward of Making it Real

So that’s what drives me, the process of creating a successful company. Getting to the moment when ‘drill ready’ becomes drills turning, when things are taking shape and you can see that you’ve made something real from scratch - that’s the reward. And the only way to get there is to build that momentum, keep it rolling and push the potential as far as it will go. 

With Intrepid’s projects in Arizona, we found success by building early, smart, and in a way that others want to emulate. When you do it right, what you leave behind is a blueprint for how to build something worth believing in.
